How to Paint and Assemble the Kid's Shelves
Painting the Kid’s Paintable shelves is easy. Almost all of the kits include high-quality stencils so that even someone with little-to-no artistic talent or experience can paint a beautiful, functional piece of art to hang on the wall of a kid’s bedroom. Below are some general Guidelines, applicable to most of the shelves. For specific videos or instructions, click a the link below that corresponds to your specific kit.

Generic Instructions:
1.Paint a base color for the shelf back. Not all of the shelf designs require this step, but most do. Refer to the painting videos above to see if your shelf back requires a base coat. Those that do will start with the back already painted (typically black) at the beginning of the video.
2. Paint the first stencil layer. Once again, you can use any paint type of your choice. Shelf kits with multiple layers of stencils may have stencils with numbers on them. These numbers are the recommended painting order. The stencils may also have arrows on them to indicate which edges of the stencils should be lined up with the wood so that they line up correctly. always use the smallest amount of paint possible to reduce the amount of paint the bleeds under the stencil. Remove the stencil and wait for this layer to dry.
3. Paint additional stencil layers (if any). See instructions for step 2.
4. Paint the shelf supports and the shelf top. This can often be done while you are waiting for layers of the shelf back paint to dry. Some shelf kits include stencils that are for the shelf top. When painting the horizontal shelf top, it is important to understand which side is the top and which is the bottom. See picture below.
5. Before assembling the shelf, decide where to hang the shelf and use the shelf hanger piece as a guide to mark where the 2 hanging screws/nails (not included) should go. Leave enough space between the screw head and the wall for the hanging bracket to be able to slide onto the heads of the screws.
6. Using a screwdriver (not included), assemble the shelf as shown in this video.
